Winifred (Una) Twomey Glennon
Winifred (Una) Twomey Glennon passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022, at home surrounded by love. She was born in the Bronx, NY on September 20, 1932, the second of six daughters of Alice (McIntyre) Twomey and Matthew Twomey, both of Ireland.
Una always had an open house and open heart. All were welcome, especially those most in need. Actively participating in her community was particularly important to her. She volunteered for the schools her eight children attended in New York and Connecticut and was very involved in St. Brendan's Church in the Bronx. She and her family bought a home in Milford, CT in 1964, where they stayed each summer and moved there full-time in 1977. Since then, Una has been actively involved in the Milford community: founding the Milford Volunteer Corps; serving as a Milford Alder for 8 years; serving on the Council on Aging; chairing the committee for the Vietnam War Memorial in Milford Center; chairing the Milford 350th Anniversary Book committee; serving as Justice of the Peace for many years; and volunteering in events throughout the community, including Milford Harbor Duck Race, St. Gabriel School, and the Milford Oyster Festival, among others. She felt strongly that it is up to each of us to work toward making a better world and always help each other.
Una is survived by her children: Sheila Kempf, Alice (Ron) Cozzi, Michael (Michele) Glennon, Kevin (Debi) Glennon, Patrick Glennon, Una Petroske, Tara Glennon, and Courtney (Don) Richards; her grandchildren: Maggie Kempf, Crissy Kempf, Katelyn (Andrew) Meola, Emily Cozzi, Deirdre Doyle, Brendan (Allyssa) Glennon, Brian (Colleen) Glennon, Sean Glennon, Colin (Nicole Aparri) Glennon, Emma (Russ) Quick, Matthew (Jeannette) Glennon, Grace (Pat Jubrey) Glennon, Quinn Petroske, Nolan Richards, Kaleigh Richards, Mackenzie Richards; and her eleven great-grandchildren; as well as many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her five sisters: Joan Molloy, Eileen Twomey, Kathleen Behrens, Mary (Pat) Gilroy, Patsy (John) Ryan; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States and Ireland.
In addition, Una leaves many wonderful friends in the Milford community, especially the Laurel Beach area, St. Gabriel Parish, and the Milford Democratic Town Committee (both past and present). She loved a great party, especially those celebrating her Irish roots with her extended family and large circle of friends. Una lived her best life, with joy and gratefulness and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
