Vincent Keating Obituary

Keating, Vincent R.
Vincent Radel Keating was the son of Vincent L. Keating and Mary Radel and was born on August 28, 1930 in Fairfield. His father was a prominent attorney active in state and local politics. Vincent and his two older sisters, Mary and Nancy, lost their father in a tragic fall when Vincent was just 6 years old. Still, he had a warm and happy childhood, spending summers developing his skills on the golf course of Brooklawn Country Club. Vincent, or "Bim" as he was affectionately called, eventually became a 3-handicap golfer. Vincent attended Fairfield Prep and Choate before graduating from Collegiate School in Manhattan in 1947. Then he attended Brown University where he earned a spot on the varsity golf team, graduating in 1952. Following college, Vincent headed to Wall Street and spent his entire professional career with several brokerage firms including Oppenheimer where he was head of its institutional sales division. Vincent eventually settled in Greenwich, CT, where his three sons John ("Chip"), William ("Tucker") and Remington ("Remy") were born and raised. Vincent instilled in all three of his sons a lifelong love of the game of golf, its traditions, and how to be gentlemen, both on the course and off. One of his greatest joys was taking his sons and local golfers of all ages to his cherished Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island. He also belonged to Greenwich Country Club and Country Club of Fairfield. He was a natural athlete- skiing, skeet shooting, and bowling were among his favorite sports. A longtime volunteer in Greenwich and Fairfield, Vincent spent many years transporting patients to and from medical appointments for the American Cancer Society. Vincent is survived by his three sons, his granddaughters Jacqueline, Schuyler, and Madison, his two sisters, his wife Adele, and his stepdaughters Jennifer Young and Jessica Suber. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5th at Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Horizons National, 120 Post Road West, Westport, CT 06880. For guest book and condolences, please visit www.SpearMillerFuneralHome.com
