William Brennan

BRENNAN William Brennan, 94, a long time resident of Westport, died in his home surrounded by his loving family on August 10, 2011. Bill's treasured wife Jean passed away in 1995 after 47 years of marriage. Bill was born in Manchester, CT in 1916 and served in the Army Air Corp from 1939 to 1946, primarily as an Armistice Officer and retired with the rank of Captain. Bill spent his entire business life at Travelers Insurance Company and made many friends as he worked around the country. He started in the mailroom and retired as Regional Vice President of Group Health and Life Insurance. Bill was an avid golfer and was a member of The Patterson Club in Fairfield for many years. He also enjoyed playing at Long Shore Club Park in Westport. He played well into his 90s and loved his time on the links with his golf partners. Post retirement, Bill and Jean volunteered at Norwalk Hospital. Bill volunteered in the Emergency Department for almost 20 years and then the Intensive Care Unit for the last 5 years. In March of this year, he received the President's Award in recognition of well over 10,000 hours of service to the hospital. Bill is survived by his daughters, Jude Brennan of New York City and Colleen Brennan of Fairfield and son, Bill and Pam Brennan and their three daughters, Nicole, Mackenzie and Katie all of Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 12 noon at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Rd. in Fairfield. Interment will be private.
