William Collins Obituary

William Patrick Collins
William Patrick Collins, age 81, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Smilow Cancer Center, New Haven, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Alice (O'Neill) Collins. Born in Queens, NY on October 28, 1942, he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Sexton) Collins. Bill was the proud owner of Door Control, Inc. of Wallingford, CT, where he worked tirelessly for many years, building many friendships along the way. A true perfectionist, he so enjoyed taking care of all the little details and was always happy to lend a hand. He was an amazing storyteller and loved to talk about his childhood days, growing up in Inwood, NYC. He loved boating, naming his boat after the love of his life, and fishing with his son and grandsons. A true Irish gentleman, his heritage meant the world to him, and Irish music would greet any visitor. He was a lifetime member of Fayerweather Yacht Club, a member of the Gaelic Club, President of Buddington Park Condo Association, and on the board for the Bank of Boston. His smile and crystal blue eyes charmed all who met him. Of all he loved, his greatest joy was found in the time he spent surrounded by his wife and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and protector of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to thank the many wonderful care providers at Smilow Cancer Center, Grimes Rehabilitation Center, and home care, for their kindness and support to Bill and his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Alice, of 61 years, survivors include his loving children, Kevin Collins and his wife Margie, and Kate Dillon and her husband Tom, his cherished grandchildren, Will Collins and his wife Melissa, Brendan Collins and his wife Caroline, Kaleigh Smith and her husband RJ, and TJ Dillon and his longtime girlfriend Bethany Patten, his two adored great-granddaughters, Dakota Joy and Ellie Grace, his brother, Tom Collins and his wife Suzanne, and his sister, Cathie Downes and her husband Pat, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Heybruck, and her husband Tom.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton. Interment will follow in Huntington Lawn Cemetery, South, 268 Huntington Street, Huntington. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and either of his two favorite churches, St. Margaret Mary Church of Shelton or St. Joseph Church in Brookfield, CT.
