Karr, William D.
Our brave, honest, loving father and husband, ETC (SS) William D. Karr, USN Retired, passed away surrounded by family on July 16, 2013 after a heroic fight with Acute Leukemia. Bill was 72. Chief Petty Officer Karr was retired from the United States Navy after 30 years, 9 months and 7 days of honorable service to the country he loved. He was a Missile Technician and Nuclear Submarine qualified aboard the USS Halibut SSGN 587 and completed his career in the Naval Reserve as an Electronics Technician. William continued his endless service to his community as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Sarasota, Knights of Columbus 3rd degree, Council 13639, a member of Ner Tamid, Jewish Congregation, Bradenton, Fl., a life member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association (NERA), a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), a member of the National Rifle Association, a member of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Wounded Warrior Foundation, a member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of United Service Organization (USO), a member of Vietnam Veterans Association, a member of the National Foundation For Cancer, a member of the United States Navy Memorial, a member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and a founder of NavyVets.com. William had a distinguished career as a carpenter, engineer, and productivity expert that spanned the continent, including: Self-Employed, Bradenton, Fl. Bill is survived by his beloved wife - Carol Ann Karr, Bradenton, Fl, beautiful daughter - Deborah Marie Corso and Son in law William Corso Sanford, Fl. His son - Douglas Alexander Karr (also a Navy Veteran), Greenwood, In, four Grandchildren, William A. Karr, George A. Porzig 111 ( E3 currently serving in the Navy), Katherine Ann Karr, & Connor Porzig, four Step Grandchildren, William Corso (Ensign, currently serving in the Navy), Michael Corso, Paige Corso and Kim Kimmig, (Spouse Uriah) four Step Great Grandchildren, Jed, Chloe, Zeke, and Justice, Brother - Allan Vincent Karr, (Spouse Jessie) Vernon, Ct, Sister - Sandra Mary McArthur, (Spouse John ) Naugatuck, Ct (formally Stratford, Ct), Three Nephews, Raymond Guard, Alexander and Robert Karr, Two Nieces, Mary Ranson, Cindy Pough and several Grand Nieces and Nephews. "Here he lies where he long'd to be; Home is the sailor, home from the sea."Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on July 26, 2013 at Toale Brothers Funeral home at 912 53rd Avenue West in Bradenton. Services will be held on Saturday July 27, 2013 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church at 833 Magellan Drive, Sarasota, Florida. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation in memory of ETC (SS) William D. Karr to Wounded Warrior Foundation, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
