Rifkin, William
William Rifkin of Derry, N.H., a former resident of Fairfield, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 in Derry.
A graduate of Andrew Warde High School and the University of Bridgeport, he was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as an accountant for NBC Radio in New York City and for "Saturday Night Live" in its first four years, later becoming a vice president of Cilco Terminal in Bridgeport and an owner of Suncook Woven Labels in New Hampshire. After retiring, he volunteered as a teacher of English as a second language in his beloved adopted home of Derry. He served on the Fairfield Affordable Housing Committee and the Fairfield RTM and had been a member of Congregation B'nai Israel in Bridgeport, where he sang in the choir.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Postol Rifkin; a daughter, Terry Wasserman-Lom; a son-in-law, Andrew Lom; a granddaughter, Eunice Mae Wasserman-Lom, and her father, Daniel Wasserman; brother-in-law Craig Shuffain; niece Rebecca Sipowicz, her husband, C.J. Sipowicz, and their children, Mackenzie and Zachary; and niece Stephanie Kessler and her husband, David. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Shuffain. He is also survived by many friends, students and loved ones in Derry, including his BFF, Julia Marks, and Brian and Bethany McMahon. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road in Fairfield.
