William Sorensen Obituary

SORENSEN William (Bill) E. Sorensen, age 77, a lifelong Lordship section of Stratford resident, died on Monday, January 26, 2004, at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Shaw Sorensen for 57 years. Bill was born on August 19, 1926, in Bridgeport, a son of the late John and Lillian Pow Sorensen. He was a graduate of Stratford High School and Arnold College. He was a former automobile salesman for Cochran Chevrolet and Page Motors. He then went on to Textron Lycoming, where he was a supervisor for the spare part division until his retirement. Bill was a proud U.S. Marine veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific in Guam. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9460, Stratford; for the past 15 years he organized reunions for the 9th defense battalion and the 9th AAA, better known as the "fighting 9th." For the past several years he belonged to a stroke group. One of his greatest joys in life was going to his cabin in Vermont and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sandra Popp and her husband, Kenneth of Northford; his sons, Ronald W. Sorensen and his wife, Valarie, and Richard S. Sorensen Sr. and his wife, Nancy, all of Stratford; his brothers, Donald Sorensen of Woodbridge, and Gerald Sorensen Sr. of the Huntington section of Shelton; and his sister, Jean Klansky of Naugatuck. Mr. Sorensen is also survived by his grandchildren, Michele Cook, Brian Popp, Michael Popp, Nicole Popp, Dr. Jennifer Sorensen, Kristian Sorensen, Erika Sorensen, Robin Sorensen and Richard Sorensen Jr. Also his great-grandchildren, Matthew Edwards, Sarah Cook and Alyssa Williams; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Sorensen. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 30, 2004, in the Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, January 29, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150.
