Anna Sheaffer
December 23, 1925 - February 19, 2026
YARDLEY - Anna Christine Sheaffer, of Yardley, Pa., passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, with family by her side.
Anna was born December 23, 1925, in Dillsburg, Pa. Anna's early years were that of an independent and inquisitive young girl persevering during the Great Depression. She defied the advice given to girls at that time by studying aeronautics and graduating Boiling Springs High School with a College Preparatory Degree in 1943. Her lifelong love of learning led her to return to college later in life. She received her B.S. in Human Behavior (Wilson College, 1983), followed by her B.A. in Fine Arts (Shippensburg University, 1993).
One of Anna's first jobs at just 17 was working for the war effort at C.H. Masland in Carlisle, Pa. She also enjoyed many years as a private art teacher and was an avid writer. Anna bore witness to a century of history, which was evident to anyone who was blessed by her wit and wisdom. She delighted in all things, from nature to technology. She loved to watch and ride in airplanes and study archaeology and astronomy, but was also enchanted by the wildlife outside her windows. She and her younger brother loved the great outdoors, joyfully disappearing into a forest to sit by a campfire or stroll along a stream.
Anna spent hours sitting in nature while painting the scenery. Her recent years were spent living with her loving and devoted daughter, Amy, where they planted gardens, shared delicious homemade meals, and watched birds and deer playing in the yard. Anna loved to travel, and especially enjoyed their trips to Europe together. Her religious pilgrimages to Israel were among her most cherished memories.
Anna is survived by two daughters, Candy Ward of Carlisle, Pa. and Amy Sheaffer of Yardley, Pa.; by her grandchildren, George, Autumn and Ellen; by her niece, Cathy Weigle; and by many loved great-nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her fiancé, Edward Devenny, who died serving in France during WWII; and later by her beloved husband of 39 years, Harold "Ike" Sheaffer; and by her darling daughters, Dr. Laura Sheaffer (1982) and Beth McGrady (2006); by her grandson, Douglas McGrady; sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and William Steinour; her brother and sister-in-law, William E. and Joan B. Sheaffer.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 47 W. Afton Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. There will be a graveside service at the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery 2 Watts Street, Mount Holly Springs, PA 17065 on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 12 p.m. To know Anna was to adore her; she was truly enchanting.
