Arlene F. Hoover, 67, of Newville, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012, in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. She was born on Wednesday, October 11, 1944, in Roxbury, a daughter of the late Samuel Holtry and Gladys (Myers) Holtry Hoover.
Arlene was a 1962 graduate of Chambersburg High School and retired in 1999 from Ahold Corp. in Carlisle after many years of service. She was a member and longtime Sunday school teacher at St. Mary's United Methodist Church in Bloserville. Arlene enjoyed quilting, sewing, biking, cross country skiing, hiking and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Arlene was a caring and loving person and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Ned M. Hoover, one son, Jerry S. (and his wife, Laurrie) Hoover of Carlisle, two daughters; Gail C. Brandt (and her fiancé, William Fernandez) of Carlisle and Tina M. (and her husband, Jim) Smith of Shermans Dale, two sisters; Shirley Keeseman of Newburg and JoAnn (and her husband, Walter) Disney of Orrstown, six grandchildren; Robyn and Danielle Hoover, Gretchen and Heide Brandt, Katelyn and Josh Smith and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by two brothers; Galen and Larry Holtry.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Allison United Methodist Church, 99 Mooreland Ave., Carlisle, with Rev. Lisa K. Klinger officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of the service and immediately following the service for a time of fellowship at the church. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.
