Arthur Mackey Obituary

Arthur B. Mackey 89, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Carlisle.

He was born on Thursday, Oct. 3, 1918, in Franklin County, and was a son of the late Benjamin H. and Clara Belle (Evans) Mackey.

Arthur was a longtime farmer in Lower Frankford Township, and also retired from the former C. H. Masland and Sons in Carlisle with more than 20 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Arthur was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1299 in Carlisle, a member of the White Circle Club, Carlisle, and a member of V.F.W. Post 6070 in Newville.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Russell, Raymond and Thomas Mackey and two sisters, Edna Heller and Viola Kramer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mabel Kathryn (Crull) Mackey; two daughters, Carol M. (and her husband, Robert) Wahls of Carlisle and Rebecca R. (and her husband, William) Gatten of Carlisle; two brothers, Charles H. Mackey of Carlisle and Frank E. Mackey of Shermansdale; two sisters, Helen Salisbury and Ruth Thumma, both of Carlisle; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. R. Lindsay Ingram officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. Thursday, until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Assoc. of PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
