Derek Morrison Obituary
He was born May 21, 1985, in Carlisle, the son of Steven A. and Gretchen E. Shriner Morrison of Carlisle.
He was a graduate of Big Spring High School where he was an honor student, and a sophomore at Mansfield University where he was a dean's list student for four semesters.
He attended the First United Presbyterian Church in Newville and was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Grant D. Morrison at home; maternal grandparents, Fred and Lucille Shriner of Carlisle; and his paternal grandfather, Mervin Morrison of Newville. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Doris Morrison.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in the First United Presbyterian Church, 111 Big Spring Ave., Newville.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill PA 17011, or to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 6700 Eastwood St., Philadelphia, PA 19149.
Egger Funeral Home Inc. of Newville is handling the arrangements.

My thoughts and prayers go out you the Morrison family. Derek was a great person... he always knew a way to make me laugh even if it was flashing a goofy smile. Trips to Giant won't be the same with out being about to run up to him and say hey... he will truely be missed!

I remeber Derek mostly from growning up at First United Presbyterian. I will never forget the time he filled in for Grant at that one pagent, how much he HATED the woodwind dance in the marching show my freshman year, or the 'Derek for President' pictures he passed out to the band that same year. He has made a greater impact then I am sure he ever expected.
Gretchen, Steve, Grant, my heart breaks for you... you are forever in my prayers.

Please accept my deepest condolences. I had the pleasure of working with Derek at Big Spring Middle School. He was a gifted musician and had a wonderful sense of humor - I can still 'see' him making the whole band laugh! Looking over the other remembrances, it is clear that Derek will live on in the fond memories of everyone who knew him.

Derek was a great friend to me and many other people. We have many memories of great times with him which will always be remembered. He has left a long lasting impression on many students at Mansfield University and will never be forgotten. The fish guys will surely miss him.

I was shcoked when I received the news of Derek's death. I have known him since I started 1st grade at Big Spring and I will never forget the countless times that he made me laugh through the years. Derek was one of those people that had that special something.... something that brought laughter and happiness to everyone around him. I know that he will be deeply missed by all. Derek, also known to me as Boomer, was such great person and a wonderful friend to my fiance, Eric. Their friendship began in middle school, specifically with the jazz band and fishing trips during the summer, and then continued throughout high school and college. Most often their common bond was through the fish. Though he is gone now we will always have the memories of the fishing adventures of Derek and Eric in the creeks of Virginia. Boomer, you will always be in our hearts!

For the short time I knew Derek, he was a great friend. Always there if you needed him and always there with a quick joke to brighten your day. He will be greatly missed and I will remember him for the rest of my life. The Morrison family is in my prayers.

Derek was a really great friend of mine. He was such a nice person, had a great sense of humor, and was very smart and talented. Derek could not have been a better friend. In the last year and a half he became like a brother to me. I can not convey the extent to which I will miss him. His outgoing personality, undeniable charisma, and never-fail dependability he will remain in my memories forever. Derek was a very close friend of mine. For the time that I knew him he was the greatest you could ask in a friend. Derek was a very special person to alot of people and will be missed dearly. The loss of Derek is devastating. I will truly miss his presence when I return to Mansfield University. Derek was gifted in many ways but he was very gifted at always making me laugh. Although I never had the privilege to personally meet Derek, as a co-worker of his mother, I did come to know what a wonderful son/person he was.
