Harold V. Webber

Harold Victor Webber, 91, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Born June 12, 1928, in Newville, he was the son of the late Alfred and Bertha (Morrison) Webber. Harold enjoyed 66 years of marriage to his loving wife, Florence J. (Hockenberry) Webber, who predeceased him and with whom he is now together in eternal life. He is survived by his four children Brenda Webber of Mechanicsburg, Ronald Webber of Saratoga Springs, New York, Beverly Flowers of Dillsburg and Randall Webber of Carlisle, and was blessed and greatly loved by eight grandchildren: Carrie Stahler, Alison Lintal, Andy Webber, Todd Baker, Evan Flowers, Toby Webber, Melanie Webber and Garrett Webber. Harold relished his role as great grand-pappy and greatly enjoyed the visits, hugs, and love of his four great-grandchildren; Moxie and Victor Stahler, Simon Flowers and Milo Lintal.

Harold grew up in Newville and is predeceased by his siblings Frederick, Elizabeth, Lois, Donald, Robert, and Marlin. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Reese of Carlisle and Richard Webber of Newville who share the family's grief and celebration for a life fully lived.

Harold was one of the hardest of workers you could have known. From his first job as a paperboy, he was focused on his work. It was not unusual for him to be the first person in the office and the last to leave. Harold served in Korea with the Army Corp Engineers. He worked for Texaco for nearly twenty years before returning to college at Shippensburg University and Penn State University for his bachelor and master's degrees in Business Education. Harold continued his higher education in High School Administration. A strong role model for following your dreams, Harold valued education and ended his career as the Assistant Business Manager of Harrisburg Steelton-Highspire Vocational Technical School.

His hard work did not end at the office. A talented handyman, Harold took great pride and determination to fix whatever needed attention. He lovingly passed his handy-man skills to his family from the Mechanicsburg home he shared with Florence for 50 years.

In retirement, Harold and Florence enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorhome (Harvey the RV) with family and shared great memories of sight-seeing trips. They were hands-on Grandparents, always ready for visits, camping, special events, and family gatherings. In recent years, with declining health, Harold enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Sassy, holiday gatherings, visits from family and friends, and the Webber Reunion.

Harold will always be remembered as a kind quiet person in a loud family, but he was heard and appreciated in so many ways for his solid, steady, calm-in-the-storm demeanor. Harold had a great voice and enjoyed singing. If you hear a voice singing in the wind that sounds like Tennessee Ernie Ford, Frank Sinatra, and Eddie Arnold rolled into one, it just may be Harold leading the heavenly chorus.

A private burial service will be held for immediate family only. A memorial service celebrating the life of Harold is planned for Saturday, 11/30/19 at 3 pm, at the First United Presbyterian Church, 111 W. Big Spring Ave, Newville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Homeland Hospice, Harrisburg.
