J. Duncan Obituary

J. David Duncan, 93, formerly of Landisburg and Loysville, died Sunday morning, Aug. 6, 2006, in the Manor at Perry Village, New Bloomfield.

David was born on Aug. 12, 1912, at Landisburg to the late David M. and Pearl Sheibley Duncan.

He was a retired foreman for PennDOT in New Bloomfield and was an employee of the former Sunnydale Creamery in Elliottsburg. David was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Landisburg, and a member of VFW Post No. 9118, Landisburg; the Loyal Order of Moose No. 925, Millerstown; the Blain Sportsmans Club; the Landisburg Fire Co.; and the Landisburg Ambulance Club.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Sarah M. Sheibley Duncan, who died in May of 1968, and Dorothy M. Orris Duncan, who died in January of 2006; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Reeder, who died in October of 1982.

Surviving are a daughter, Darla Page and husband, Harold, of Millerstown; five stepchildren, Peggy Crozier and husband, Jack, and Edwin "Jake" Sheibley and wife, Annette, all of Landisburg, Joyce M. Latchford, Faye R. Reisinger and husband, James, all of Loysville, Neil E. Sweger and wife, Elaine, of Mechanicsburg; and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in the Nickel Funeral Home, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, with the Rev. Robert Koch officiating. Burial with military honors by New Bloomfield VFW Post No. 7463 and Newport American Legion Post No. 177 will be in the St. Peter's U.C.C. Cemetery, Landisburg. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

The family desires that memorial contributions be made to New Hope United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 343, Landisburg, PA 17040.
