Janet Conover Obituary

Janet Louise Conover passed away on April 3, 2011, at the Sarah A. Todd Home, Carlisle, after a four-year struggle with cancer. Her family was at her side.

She was born in Newville on July 5, 1936, the daughter of Ralph and Nannie Diehl Lehman.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, H. Bruce Conover; a daughter, Carla J Grimes and her husband Bill; three grandchildren, Zachary Peiper of Carlisle, Megan Negley and husband Brian of Carlisle and Mackenzie Grimes; and one great-grandchild, Lane Peiper; and her dog Lucky, who she loved. She is also survived by one brother, Clair Lehman of Newville, and many nieces and nephews.

She was a 1954 graduate of Newville High School.

She cleaned houses for many people in the Newville area.

She was a member of the Newville First Church of God all her life, where she belonged to the Ladies Ministry for many years and was Sunday school secretary and assistant secretary for many years. She loved to go to church, which she did until January 2011, when the cancer got worse.

She was a member of Friendship Hose and the Ladies Auxiliary of Newville. She loved to walk, which she did until July of 2007, when she was found to have cancer. She was a member of the Green Ridge Village Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Swaim Health Center and Manor Care for many years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Conover was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernita Lehman, Dot Gilbert and Ruth Cohick; and five brothers, Dean, Paul, Glenn, Ralph Jr. and Lester Lehman.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Newville First Church of God. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Wayne Good officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newville First Church of God Building Fund, 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville, PA 17241.
