Joan Hurgeton Obituary
Born March 19, 1931 in New Kingstown to the late Elmer and Julia Ritter, she was a resident of Winter Haven for the past 33 years. She was a homemaker while her children were being raised before becoming a receptionist in her family business.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Winter Haven and a past member of the Lions Club Women's Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, David B Hurgeton Sr.; a son, David B Hurgeton Jr.; two daughters, Joellyn Collier of Winter Haven and Janelle Swilley of Babson Park, Fla.; a brother, Elmer L. Ritter of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Genevieve Bromley of New Kingstown; and four grandchildren, Kayla Collier, Julia Swilley, Alyssa Swilley and Jacki Swilley.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Myron Ritter.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church, New Kingstown, with the Rev. Ronald McElwee officiating. Burial will be in Longsdorf Cemetery, New Kingstown. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Dear Dave,
My mother, Santina Turner, and I were saddened to hear of the death of your dear wife, Joan. We learned of her psssing when I returned from North Carolina on 11/09/07. We send you and family all our love and prayers. May the wonderful memories you shared together keep you all at peace during this difficult time.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.

They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

I did not know your loved one, however, I was drawn to the name Ritter. My maiden name was Ritter. I have called Lakeland home for 40 years, moving there from Grainger County, TN. There is a large number of Ritter's there and I thought she may be related. I am truly sorry for your loss.
