John H. Bowman, 69, of Carlisle, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Altoona, he was a son of the late John Harry and Marjorie Miller Bowman.
John was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a 1962 graduate of Penn State University with a secondary teaching degree, and received his master's degree from Westminster University, Md. He also loved animals.
Surviving are two sisters, Karen B. (and husband, Edward) Miller of Lock Haven and Susan E. Zimmerer of Waynesboro; a niece, Robin (and husband, David) Long of Lock Haven; three nephews, Trent Miller of Lock Haven, W. Joseph (and wife, Hollyn) Zimmerer of Waynesboro and Scott M. (and wife, Sommer) Zimmerer of Altoona and seven great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick L. Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Andre J. Meluskey as celebrant. Burial will be held in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
