Lisa Monroy Obituary

Lisa Maria Silva Monroy (formerly Lisa Rhoades), 25, passed away on July 8, 2011, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, after complications related to childbirth.

Born on Feb. 11, 1986, in Camp Hill to Randal and Kathleen (Lamertina) Rhoades, Lisa was a graduate of Trinity High School and St. Francis University in Loretto, where she earned her master's degree in physician assistant sciences.

Lisa married Fernando Silva Monroy at St. Joseph Church in Mechanicsburg on Aug. 30, 2008. She had been living in Lumberton, Texas, and was a physician assistant in the Emergency Room at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital, Beaumont, Texas.

At Trinity, Lisa was a member of the handbell choir, choir, marching band and track and field team. She was also an exchange student in Canada. At St. Francis University, Lisa played trombone in the pep band, was a soloist in the mixed chorus, and aided in founding Omega Zeta Nu, a service and academic sorority.

Other achievements included receiving an academic award for her work in French language and induction into the Physician Assistant Honors program. She also participated in mission trips and study abroad programs in Mexico. During summers, she was a baritone horn player for the Reading Buccaneer Drum and Bugle Corps and marched with the corps during two years when they were world champions.

Lisa made friends easily and was full of love, compassion and energy. She enjoyed physical activity, had a witty sense of humor and could easily make people smile. Two of her best friends were her dogs, Jackson and Charlie. During her life, Lisa made this world a better place. She will be missed by those who love her.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Fernando, and their daughter, Alicia Maria, of Lumberton; her parents, Randal and Kathleen Rhoades of Mechanicsburg; her sister and brother-in-law, Lauren and Nathan McNaughton, and her nephew, Joseph F. Triplett, all of Camp Hill; her grandmother, Betty Rhoades, of Carlisle; and her aunt, Debra Rhoades of Studio City, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Rennie Triplett Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lisa Rhoades Silva Monroy Memorial Fund for the benefit of her husband and daughter. Contributions may be made at any Orrstown Bank branch or mailed to Orrstown Bank, 1110 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
