Michael Cree Obituary

Michael B. Cree

May 16, 1955 - September 23, 2024

Michael B. Cree, age 69, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at Hershey Medical Center on September 23, 2024.

Mike was the eldest son of the late Boyd and Shirley (Waters) Cree. He was born in Harrisburg, graduated in 1973 from Cumberland Valley High School, and lived in the Carlisle area for nearly 50 years.

Mike was owner of Mike's Carpentry Services until his retirement in 2023. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending as much time as possible hunting, fishing or hiking.

But more than anything, Mike loved dogs - his dogs or anyone else's. Mike was a "dog whisperer" and no dog ever had a better "Dad" than Mike.

Mike is survived by a sister, Susan Cree and two brothers, Thomas Cree (Patricia Jane) and John Cree (Leslie), all of Mechanicsburg. Mike is also survived by three nieces, two nephews, and many life-long friends.

Mike was a simple man, so he requested no memorial service. In lieu of flowers or cards, Mike would prefer contributions to the animal rescue of your choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.

This is the last deer Mike took in Washington state. My Dad, Scott, and I were all fortunate to be there for that. That´s the only buck ever taken off the ranch we hunted. Most of the deer were taken off the timber company land adjacent to the ranch, and we were beginning to wonder if we´d ever bag one on Roy and Ruby´s place. No surprise at all that Mike finally broke the curse! Notice the shot placement; smack-dab in the sweet spot buddy. There´s a catch to the story though:
We often enjoyed gathering around the TV after the hunt when a good football game was on. We regularly incorporated terminologies of the game into our discussions apart from actually watching football, jokingly of course. Although that shot Mike made was right on the money it didn´t drop the deer in his tracks, but he didn´t make it far at all before the lights went out. Only problem was we found the deer on the other side of the fence, about 20 feet or so on the neighbor´s property. Then the football jokes were on. "After further review, it´s been determined that the receiver´s feet came down out of bounds before completing the catch. Therefore, the pass is incomplete, and The Hunters have been charged with their final timeout. The Hunters did not reach the line to gain and result of the play is a turnover on downs."
We cracked ourselves up all the time with goofy stuff like that. So sad that those times have come to an end, but the memories of them all will live forever within ourselves and the folks we share the stories with.
I´m going to miss you, Mike. If there´s a broad pasture surrounded with forest and loaded with deer up there in Heaven, I hope you´ve got a sweet ground blind set up with the wind in your face, and the sun on your back. Shoot straight buddy; we´ll all catch up with you at sundown soon enough.

Met mike many years ago when he and buddy scott came out to Washington to deer hunt. That was the start of many good years and times in hunting and sharing times together. Can't say enough about my feelings for mike and the joy he brought to our times together. He'll always be in our thoughts and with us whenever we hunt or fish or with the friends he made out here. Thanks for the privilege of knowing you and your companionship over the years. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.

Mike was always very friendly and welcoming when we visited. Sad to hear of his passing. Great sense of humor, and those deep-fried turkeys on Thanksgiving were just the best. Condolences to all family and friends.

I have known Mike for a long time. My late husband met him at Moyer's Gun Shop. Mike did a lot of carpentry work in our home and he was good at it but had a hot temper. I knew how much he loved his dogs. He did love to talk. Was so sad to hear about his passing. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
