Morris Grossman Obituary
Morris Grossman, Ph.D., age 90 of Fairfield, CT., passed away on Wednesday December 12, 2012 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Dr. Grossman was born in New York, NY., a son of the late Isaac and Annie (Turetsky) Grossman, and brother of the late Dr. Jacob Grossman of Riverdale, NY. He was a Professor of Philosophy at Fairfield University from 1968 until 1992. Dr. Grossman also taught at Pennsylvania State University and Portland State University. He received his undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He is survived by his loving sister, Rima Zimmerman of State College, PA., cousins, nieces and nephews. During his long academic career, his essays on prominent philosophers appeared in major philosophical journals, along with his own explorations in the areas of aesthetics and morality. He was much in demand for lectures and platform discussions. Friends knew him as thoughtful, generous, and witty, with a probing mind, a fascination with all of the arts, and a remarkable talent as a pianist. Services will take place on Sunday December 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM directly at Beth El Cemetery on Reid Street in Fairfield. (www.greensfuneralhome.com)

Dear Grossman Family,
My husband Matt and I were lucky enough to live in the condo underneath Morris for just under 6 years. He was a wonderful man whom I had loved to talk with, share stories, bake goodies for, listen to him play the piano, Morris was just a delight. Every summer he always lent us his patio to put out tomato plants out because he had the best sun and he was just a wonderful neighbor ...we are so sorry to just be hearing this, but would like to extend our deepest condolences to your family.

I met Morris in the summer of 1977, at an NEH seminar in Boulder and I have just received the sad news of his passing from another friend who was with us that summer. A word of support from Morris played a part in getting my first full-time teaching position, where I find myself now in my thirty-third year. Morris combined, in such a rare way, heart-felt warmth with sharp intelligence and dry wit. Conversations from decades ago still echo, in my mind and I'm sure in many others.
