The Rev. Dr. Philip W. Ziegler

Philip Ziegler Obituary

He was born in Carlisle and also lived in Plainfield, until moving to Ocala, Fla., in 1986.

The Rev. Ziegler attended Gettysburg College and received his doctorate in theology. For many years he was minister of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church in Duncansville. He also ministered in Plainfield.

He also was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 90th Infantry Division. He was awarded three Purple Hearts, one Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and the Distinguished Service Cross.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Ocala, Fla. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Paralyzed American Veterans. He was an avid reader, writing poetry that was published in several publications.

He is survived by two sons, Jack W. Ziegler of Newville and David F. Ziegler of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Carole L. Rish of Nanticoke; a stepson, Ronald A. Buzza of Camp Hill; two sisters, Edith Meyers of Camp Hill and Pearl Bucher of Newville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Anna Ziegler of Carlisle.

He was preceded in death by his third wife, Thelma Ziegler; two brothers, Lester Ziegler and Herbert Ziegler; and three sisters, Ethel Jenkins, Clara Mentzer and Ora Ziegler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
