Dear Jean and Family,
Sandy and I were shocked to find out that Bob had passed away and are so deeply sorry for your all’s loss. We both have fond memories of you and Bob as a couple and are grateful to Bob for being so instrumental in establishing my NPS career. Working as a student landscape architect for Bob the summer of 1975 literally redirected my professional life and career. He went out of his way to work on my behalf to get me hired for a position on the Parkway in 1976. Bob had a way of making things happen. Like he did for so many other young landscape architects Bob showed me what being a landscape architect in the NPS was all about. Bob’s lessons and values were especially relevant for me when I returned to the Blue Ridge Parkway in 1994 as chief landscape architect. I could not drive the Parkway without hearing Bob talk about its importance or without seeing the results of his work there.
Bob was great at his job, inspiring to watch how he managed situations, with a smile and an even temperament and always with the best solution in mind for the landscape and visitors who would enjoy it.
So, ole friend you will always be evergreen in our memory.
Jean and family, we wish you peace and comfort.

Bob handed over his road work at Big Bend N P to me most graciously! One of the best jobs I encountered in the DSC. He cast a big shadow in his work with the Feral Highway Administration !

Jean and Family,
Very sorry to hear of the passing of Bob.
I have known Bob since the mid 1960’s when he and I became employees of the National Park Service, Eastern Office of Design and Construction, Philadelphia, PA.
I worked under Bob’s leadership from 1980 til his retirement in 1995. Bob always had the mission of the service, “preserve and protect for future generations”, instilled in each project he was involved in - he always did his utmost to utilize design and construction standards that would accomplish that mission.
It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Bob.
RIP Bob...
God’s Peace to The Schreffler Family.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I briefly worked for Bob at the Denver Service Center and he gave me the opportunity to work at Blue Ridge Parkway early in my career. Bob passed on to me the values that every Landscape Architect in the NPS needs to learn and I am grateful for the opportunity to have known him.
God bless you,
Mark Pritchett

Dear Jean and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We offer our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Bob first hired me to work with him and his NPS Eastern Roads and Trail team. I will always be grateful for all that he taught me about the traditional National Park Service values and the importance of preserving and protecting the aesthetics and character of our National Parks. He was a great mentor and I have many fond memories of the great projects we were able work on together and our many work trips to the various National Parks. We wish you peace and comfort at this time of sadness.

Bob, like many landscape architects, had an uncanny knack for rallying the planning and design teams to work well and address all the issues in a thorough, yet fun manner. I truly enjoyed working on a number of NPS projects with Bob, and do not have to tell his family and friends what a wonderful man he had become.
