Thomas Francis Sautter Jr., 85, of Carlisle, formerly of West Orange, N.J., died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Thomas was born in Orange, N.J., on Sept. 11, 1925, to Elizabeth Murphy Sautter and Thomas Francis Sautter. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Kathryn Hyer and Jane Dempsey.
Thomas graduated from Orange High School in 1943. He served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II and attained the rank of sergeant at age 19.
Thomas graduated from Seton Hall University in 1950 (the first year it was a university) with a B.S. in accounting. He worked as a sales engineer until his retirement in 1990, when he relocated to Carlisle.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Natalie R. (Erickson) Sautter. He was the loving father of six children, Carole S. Hely (Daniel), Kathleen S. Thomas, Mary Beth Sautter, Thomas Francis III (Marcia), Daniel J. (deceased) and Patrice S. Del Vecchio. He has nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Thomas was a life-long member of Elks Lodge 1154, South Orange, N.J., and Elks Lodge 1590, West Orange, N.J., and was a past exalted ruler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Marsh Drive, Carlisle, with the Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with military honors.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with a prayer service following, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
