Vilma Bucher Obituary

Vilma Leya Grove Bucher died by herself with an olive vodka martini at her side. Born in Carlisle on June 2, 1927 to the late Walter Oscar & Tury Slaybaugh Grove. She died unexpectedly at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on December 4th, 2019 at the age of 92. Widow of Paul G. Bucher who died June 19, 1991 after 42 years of marriage. A 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School. A 1948 graduate of Bryn Mawr School of Nursing. Worked as a staff & private duty nurse at Carlisle Hospital, a charge nurse at Cumberland Co & Sarah Todd Nursing Homes & participated for 30 years in the Nurses' Health Study at Harvard Medical School. A lifelong member of First United Church of Christ, a charter member of Carlisle Area Mothers of Multiples. Served on the board & was treasurer of the former Practical Nursing School of Carlisle Hospital. She was preceded in death by a son Theodore G. 1998, daughter-in-law Patty & sister Phyllis Hylwiak. Survivors are sister, Delores Grove Stark, MD; Dru (Frank) Wilson, PA, Sue Tolliver, VA, P. Gilbert, Boiling Springs. Grandchildren: Douglas (Kate) Wilson, PA, Elizabeth (Ryan) Goddard, CA, Stephanie Tolliver, VA & Catherine Tolliver, VA. Great granddaughters, Evelyn & Clara Wilson, PA & great grandsons, Ethan & Owen Goddard, CA. She will miss her beloved village of Boiling Springs, PA. A memorial service will be held on January 4th 2020 at 11am at The First United Church of Christ 30 N Pitt St, Carlisle PA 17013.
