Anthony J. Rangel, 55, of North Pate Street, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Carlsbad Medical Center. As per his wishes, there are no services and cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
Anthony Joseph Rangel was born to John Sr. and Herculana (Rodriguez) Rangel on October 15, 1958, in Worland, Wyoming. He moved to Lovington, N.M. as a child and graduated from Lovington High School in 1977 before obtaining an A.A. in Business Management from New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs.
Anthony and Fern Florez Rangel were married on December 6, 1997, in Carlsbad.
Anthony was employed as a program director for the Boy's and Girls Club of Carlsbad for many years before serving as Executive Director for the Boy's and Girl's Club of Socorro (97-99) and Bloomfield (2000-2002). He retired for health reasons and returned to Carlsbad in 2002.
He loved working with children but his latest passion were his dogs: Hanna, Pookie, Bellah and Louie. He is preceded in death by son, Jeremy Rangel, four brothers and one sister.
Anthony is survived by: wife Fern Florez Rangel of Carlsbad; daughter, Angelica Rangel of Hobbs, N.M.; sisters: Sally Barriga and Nina Jiron both of Tatum, N.M., Mary Arenivas of Houston, Texas, and Lupe Holguin of Odessa, Texas; two granddaughters, the entire Florez family and numerous nieces and nephews.
