Mary Basham Obituary
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. today, December 28, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Carlsbad Cemetery with J. D. Brown officiating. Interment will follow.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Beth Basham was born Dec. 13, 1916, in Lubbock, Texas, to Oscar Franklin and Lillie Celeste (Buckley) Boyd. Mary Beth grew up in Texas and graduated high school. She attended Texas Tech University for three years. She met Otis Basham while attending college and they were married in Roswell, N.M., on Aug. 19, 1939. They moved to Carlsbad in 1940, living there until 1955 when they returned to Texas. In 1969 they moved back to Carlsbad where they raised their family. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club in the 1940s, PEO, The Landsun Auxiliary, AARP and First United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and collecting old movies. She was honored with The Sam Thornburg Landsun Foundation Award in 2006 and was honored as one of Carlsbad's "Unsung Heroes" in October 2011.
Survivors are her son, Biff Basham and wife, Charlene, of Cloudcroft, N.M.; daughter, Robin Bostick, and husband, Leroy, of Carlsbad, N.M.; five grandchildren: Terry Basham and wife, Kristy, Sherry Basham, Sandy Basham, Shane Bostick and wife, Kris, Julie Montgomery and husband, Randall; three great-grandchildren: Kyle Valeu, Dylan Bostick and Harrison Bostick.
Memorial contributions may be made to Otis and Mary Beth Basham Foundation at Landsun Homes, 2002 Westridge Road, Carlsbad, NM 88220.

Mary Beth was one of the sweetest people our family has ever known. She was a special person, a great godmother to Brian and a good friend and mentor to me. She will be missed. Love to all of you. Barbara Ahrens and family.
