Sylvia Aragon Obituary

Sylvia Q. Aragon, 53 of Burnett Road, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, in rural Lea County, N.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Loving Cemetery. Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, also at San Jose. Services are entrusted to West Funeral Home.
Sylvia Quintela Aragon was born in Carlsbad, N.M., on March 24, 1958, to Angel and Jeniveva Quintela Aragon. Her early and formative years were spent in the Carlsbad area and she graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School with the Class of '76. Sylvia married and moved to South/Central Texas, where she lived with her family for a number of years. Although she enjoyed her years there, Sylvia always considered Carlsbad her home. Her desire to raise her sons within the loving circle of her large extended family eventually brought her back to Carlsbad.
Sylvia had many interests and hobbies. She was an avid camper and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed karaoke and dancing, and was devoted to her treasured dogs. Sylvia loved all children and the greatest joy in her life was interacting and playing with them, especially her precious grandchildren. Sylvia was an outgoing "people person" and had many friends. She was loved and well known for her kindheartedness and forgiving nature.
Sylvia was a beloved and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a beautiful person both in appearance and in character. Sylvia was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church.
Sylvia was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Rosita Lopez; a grandson, Joey Aragon; and by niece and nephew JoAnn and Harry Collins.
Sylvia is survived by sons: Victor Aragon and wife, Gayle of Fate, Texas, David Silvas, Julio Silvas and wife, Amber and Brian Silvas, all of Carlsbad; brothers: Alonzo Aragon of Amarillo, Texas, Alex Aragon of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Albert and Angel Aragon Jr., both of Carlsbad; sisters: Olivia Esfandiyari of Houston, Texas, Mary Helen Aragon of Prince George, Va., Diana Lopez, Druscilla Campos, Sally and Margie Aragon and Lolly Espinoza, all of Carlsbad; grandchildren: Michael Aragon, Andrew Martinez, Jessica Martinez, Brayden Silvas, Lexi Silvas, Kinzi Silvas and Audrey Lynn Johnson; constant companion, Jose Lepe; stepfather, Cruz Chacon and 40 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cruz Lopez, Eric Lopez, Anthony Lopez, Leo Lopez Jr., Tony Campos Jr., Jacob Aragon and Edward Bojorquez. Honorary pallbearers are Emilio Aragon, Esteban Quintela Jr., Gilbert Quintela Sr. and her 40 nieces and nephews. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com

Aunt Sylvia,
I hope you know how very special you are to me! I sure wish I would have told you more often. Guess I never thought I wouldn't have the chance. You made the world a better place just by being in it. You definitely lit up my life. From giving me my first job to blessing me with your presence on our weekend trips. So many wonderful memories I will cherish forever. You were the one who really made me feel like part of this family. I'm sure going to miss your smiling face and especially your blonde jokes!! I want my cousins to know they are not alone. I miss you so very much, but I find comfort knowing you are right where you were meant to be.
Love you always
Angela

Sylvia,

You were always the life of the party. Always making everyone laugh, and always cutting up. You will be missed greatly. My wife is your blood cousin, and she is very emotional with the loss, but also realizes that you are in a better place. The fact is, that now is the time to celebrate your life. I never had truly good mexican food until I met you, for you could outcook anyone!!! My cousin is married to your son, and what a wonderful young man he is. I guess that Amber and Julio's kids are double cousins to myself and wife's kids. You will be greatly missed. God is in control, no matter how hard it may seem to comprehend the circumstances of life here in the flesh on earth. Just have faith, pray, and come together as family, and celebrate the life of Sylvia.

Sylvia Q. Aragon, you will truly missed. Thank you for the special bond you had with my sister Lolly Espinoza. You were like a sister that she never had, and you were like another daughter to my mom the late (Irene Carnero). I remember Sylvia and the boys living right next door to my mom (Irene), and my mom and I (Al Carnero Jr) were baby sitting the boys and Julio was sick and he was wearing a patch over his eye, and also having Julio take breathing treatments. There after Sylvia would check on my mom (Irene) and take her to the store, or go and take her to pay a bill, or whatever my mom (Irene) needed help with. Sylvia you are, and will always be a member of the Carnero/Espinoza Family. You helped take care of my mom (Irene), and for that I'm truly greatful, and I will never forget that. I hope that your boys will keep in touch with us, as well as there other Uncles/Aunts. Victor, David, Julio, and Brian you are not alone you still have lots of family here for you. Victor I didn't look at you like a cousin, you were my other brother, as well David, Julio, and Brian, you boys will alway have a special place in my heart. I know that my mom (Irene) will be the first one there to welcome you up in heaven with open arms. Sylvia you be truly missed by everyone that you touched, but never forgotten. Sincerly Alvaro A Carnero Jr.
