Carol Carpenter Obituary

Carol Carpenter, 84, of Broken Bow, Neb., passed away Sept. 4, 2023, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.

Carol Lorraine Carpenter was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Ansley to Lemuel and Alma (Landes) Parker.

Shel worked as a waitress before going to work at Becton Dickinson for 40 years.

Carol married Carl Speer, Jr., and the couple had five children. After her divorce, she raised all five children on her own. Later in life she married Cleon "Carp" Carpenter, the love of her life, until his death in 2003.

Carol was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses for 40 years. She enjoyed going to Assemblies with friends from church and their Bible studies together.

Carol was an avid reader. She always had a book or her Bible with her. She loved going for long rides with her husband, Carp, and stopping to try new restaurants. She liked going fishing with Carp or her grandson, Andrew, where they fished and she sat and read a book. Carol loved to take the kids camping in Colorado.

Carol was a very giving person, if you visited her, she always offered to fix you something to eat. If she had a dollar and you needed it, she gave it. She never spoke ill of anyone. The worst thing anyone ever heard her say was, "I don't like them much, but I can get along with them."

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Cleon "Carp"; mother Alma (Landes) Pettis; father Lemuel Parker; three sisters Ruby Reno, Wanda Schmidt and Bonnie Jean Parker; and three grandsons Zack Speer, Jessie Speer and Markus Hohenreiter.

Carol is survived by her children Carl Keith (Sherry) Speer of Gibbon, Deborah (Mike) Dodge of North Dakota, Daniel (Jennifer) Speer of Broken Bow, Angie Martinez of Colorado and William Speer of Broken Bow; 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; siblings David Parker, Doris Jones and Leland "Corky" Parker.

Memorial services will be Friday, Sept.8, at 11 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Inurnment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family for designated at a later date.

A very sweet grandma that loved her family and friends. I will never forget you always telling me " I am another day closer to being with Zachary ." Now you are together forever. The many prayers you would say with us. You did set very good examples to those of us who knew you . You will be missed very much.
