Danny Woolstrum Obituary

Danny Alan Woolstrum was born in Broken Bow, Neb., Dec. 18, 1957, to Harry and Ina Faye Woolstrum, the second of five children.

He attended Ansley Public School all 13 years, and graduated in 1976. The friendships he made during those years lasted a lifetime.

He was a boy scout and played baseball, football and ran track. He was also in several high school musical groups, he says to meet girls not because he could actually sing.

During this time, his grandpa became ill, so he took over running the family farm. This began his love of the farm and Hereford cattle.

During his senior year of high school, he began working for a welder in town to learn the trade. After graduation, he went to work for New Holland in Lexington as a welder.

In 1978, he began working for Burlington Northern Railroad, which lasted 33 years. His job took him to the beautiful Nebraska Sandhills, North Dakota, New Mexico and back to Lincoln before retiring.

In retirement, he worked odd jobs to keep busy, but the farm was always his first love.  He liked golfing, bowling, playing cards, Nebraska football and riding his Harley.

In 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, Tammy McDonald. They would have been married 47 years Aug. 19 of this year.

Although no children were born to this union, all of the nieces, nephews and their spouses held a very special place in his heart.

He is survived by his wife Tammy; father Harry; uncle Jim (Pat) Woolstrum; sisters - Collette (Mike) Ferguson, Kelly (Brad) Bell, Carla; brother David; many nieces; and nephews.

A private family service will be at a later date. All memorials will go to the Ansley Fire and Rescue.
Published by Custer County Chief from Aug. 11 to Aug. 17, 2025.
