Janice Swick, 82, of Norfolk, Neb., passed away Sept. 30, 2025, Edgewood Vista in Norfolk, Neb.
Janice "Swicky" Louise Swick was born in Sargent July 3, 1943 to Louis and Lillian (Duryea) Swick, and grew up on their EverBreeze Ranch in the Lillian Community north of Broken Bow.
She attended grade school at Lillian District 60 and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1961. She was a member of Lillian Church of Christ and was baptized by immersion in the Gates River.
During her school years, Janice was active in 4-H with horses from their ranch that were bred, raised, broken and trained by her dad and herself.
After graduation, Janice worked at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow. She then attended Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk where she earned a Bachelor's of Christian Education degree.
Janice was then called to Brocton, Ill., for three years, where she helped with the Brocton Christian Church youth activities, and also worked at General Electric.
Upon her return to Nebraska, she was employed by the Nebraska State Patrol Troop B office in Norfolk where she worked for nearly 39 years, retiring in August of 2007.
Later in life, Janice was able to live out a life-long dream of getting back to horses by traveling to shows with her good friend and horse trainer, Carol Nielsen. Following in her dad's footsteps, she won many top prizes using equine descendants of his stock.
She also used her horses to help children and young adults participate in Special Olympics competitions, as well as bringing them to an annual church event which gave others an opportunity to experience riding.
She loved all animals and especially enjoyed her pet dogs and cats throughout the years. She often visited hospitals and nursing homes with her therapy dog, Ginger, to help brighten their days.
Janice was a member of the Norfolk Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Lillian, and grandparents. She leaves behind many extended family members and friends, as well as her fur babies, RuthE and Tabby.

Alzheimer's Association, Norfolk Cat Project, c/o Madison County Veterinarian Clinic, or Norfolk Church of Christ.
Funeral services for will be Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
A second funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Christ's Church at Lillian in Lillian Township north of Broken Bow.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Gates Cemetery north of Lillian Township.
