Mary Price Obituary

Mary Kay (Downey) Price was born July 13, 1935, in Anselmo, Neb., to Paul and Mabel (Kettleborough) Downey, and was called to her eternal home Oct. 8, 2025, at the age of 90.

Mary Kay was a devoted wife, mom, Grandma Mackey, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend. She grew up in Anselmo until the age of five, when she moved to San Diego, Calif., with her family. The family moved back to Merna in 1949.

She attended Dale Valley School until eighth grade, then attended Merna High School. She was united in marriage to William T. "Bill" Price on Dec. 28, 1953, in Broken Bow.

Mary Kay was a very lucky lady. She was always winning something, including Husker Football tickets. She worked at Central Nebraska Drug Store and was a card merchandiser for several stores in Broken Bow.

Mary Kay's interests included her coffee group, crafts and being an officer of Broken Bow Does #68. She loved taking pictures, Husker football and family get togethers.

Her favorite name was "Grandma Mackey."

Mary Kay is survived by her son Ron (Elaine) Price of Broken Bow; daughter Karen (Paul) Oberbrockling of Kearney; step-daughter Nancy Starr of Sparks, Nev.; grandchildren Josh and Stacy Price of Mead, Jeff and Amanda Price of Wahoo, Kenna and Nathan Puls of Kearney and Haley Oberbrockling of Minden; great-grandchildren Tanner and Preston Price of Mead, Ashtyn and Jacee Price of Wahoo and Rowen Morse of Kearney; brothers James Downey of Merna, Richard Downey of Lexington and Mike (Sheila) Downey of Arnold; sister Ella Mae (Gene) Mapel of Sparks, Nev.; brother-in-law Bernie Phifer of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Kay was preceded in death by husband Bill; parents Paul and Mabel Downey; father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Anna Price; granddaughter Sarah Joy Price; sister Shirley Phifer; brothers Wayne Downey and Ed Downey; brothers-in-law Merlon Weidner and Dean Price; and sisters-in-law Joan Downey, Dorothy Weidner and Leona Price.
