Raymond Baxter Obituary

Raymond "Shorty" Baxter, 83, of Broken Bow, Neb., passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Raymond "Shorty" Dennis Baxter was born Dec. 6, 1942, in Dunning to William and Irma (Fetters) Baxter.

Shorty graduated from Broken Bow High School. On June 30, 1963, Shorty married Linda Meston in Loup City. The couple lived in the Ansley and Broken Bow area their whole lives. Shorty was employed for 30-plus years at the Becton Dickinson Plant in Broken Bow.

Shorty enjoyed tractors, semis, watching the traffic go by and watching western shows and the Wheel of Fortune on TV. In his younger years he liked tinkering in his shop, vacation in Colorado and giving kids rides on a flatbed trailer with his tractor. He enjoyed the simple things in life.

Shorty was preceded in death by his wife Linda; infant son; parents William and Irma; brothers Billy and Charles; and sister Kathy.

Shorty is survived by son Bobby Baxter of Broken Bow; grandchildren Tina Baxter, Jaxon Baxter, Allison Baxter and Kadan Baxter; and great-grandchildren Rowan McNees, Millie Robertson and Jasper Robertson; brothers Bob Baxter of Broken Bow and Rod (BJ) Baxter of Broken Bow; sister Mary Lee Tumbarello of Arizona and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation and time to greet the family will be Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary. A private family service will be on Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
