Robert Strawn Obituary

Rev. Robert A. Strawn of Broken Bow, Neb., went to be with his Lord and Savior Jan. 22, 2024.

He was born Aug. 3, 1936, to Donald Strawn and Helen (nee Stegeman) in Belvidere, Ill.

He was raised in Cherry Valley, Ill. He graduated from East High School in Rockford, Ill., Concordia Junior College, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield Ill.

He married Ann (nee Nyman) on June 13, 1959. 

Robert was ordained in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1961. He served congregations in Kadoka, S.D. and Midland, S.D. (1961-64), Scribner and Snyder (1964-1969), Gering (1969-1976) and Loveland, Colo. (1976-1993).

He colloquized into the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod in 1993 and served St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Broken, Bow from that time until he retired in 2002. He and Ann retired to Broken Bow. 

Robert and Ann were blessed with five children, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife Ann; daughter-in-law Kathleen Strawn of Sun City, Ariz.; son Rev. James Strawn (Kristy) of Archbold, Ohio; daughter Ruth Strawn of West Fargo, N.D.; son Rev. Paul Strawn (Kristi) of Spring Lake Park, Minn.; and son Matthew Strawn (Naoko) of Hitoyoshi City, Japan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Edward; sister-in-law Lorraine; and his oldest son Mark.

Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 25, 12 to 7 p.m. with family greeting from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
