Anne Doak Taylor

Anne Doak Taylor, 93, of Charlottesville, Va., died on October 7, 2025 at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. Born January 9, 1932 in Richmond, she was the daughter of George Barbour Doak and Helen Gould Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Gregory Blackwell Taylor, who passed away in April of 2025 at the age of 94. Anne excelled in many fields, and after graduating from Randolph-Macon Woman's College, she earned a Masters in Teaching from Radcliffe. She met her husband in Cambridge, and they were married in Richmond in 1956. Anne and Greg raised their two children in Cleveland Heights, OH., where she became active in several volunteer organizations, such as the Women's Committee of the Shaker Lakes Nature Center. They moved to the Washington, DC area in 1979 and settled in the Rosemont neighborhood of Alexandria, Va., where Anne contributed to the successful designation of Rosemont as a Historic District. In retirement, they moved to Charlottesville, finally to Westminster Canterbury in 2003. Anne was an active member of the WCBR community, contributing especially to the development of the idyllic Nature Pond. Anne is survived by her daughter Sarah Swearer (Hank), of Austin, TX; Jonathan Taylor of Ridgefield, CT. and Cleveland, OH; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Special thanks are given to the remarkable staff of caregivers at Westminster Canterbury, where Anne and Greg made their home for more than 20 years.
