Beverly Bashor Brown Obituary

Beverly went to be with her Savior on June 11, 2025. Born November 14, 1927, in Hayden, Colorado, she was the daughter of Dr. William H. and Dorothy Campbell Bashor. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell W. Brown; daughter Judy; sister Barbara Friend; brothers, Thomas C. Bashor and William H. Bashor. She is survived by son, Larry R. Brown of Thornton, CO; son, James S. Brown and wife, Sheila of Artesia, NM; daughter, Linda K. Barnes and husband Ken of Barboursville, VA; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Beverly graduated from East Denver High School in 1945 and worked at First National Bank in Denver. She attended community college part-time until her marriage to Russell W. Brown, her high school sweetheart, on December 22, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Denver, CO. Immediately following the marriage of Russ and Bev, they made their residence in Lawrence, KS where Russ was enrolled in the University of Kansas School of Engineering. Bev worked until daughter Judy was born in Dec. 1947. Following Russ' graduation in June 1948, the family returned to Colorado for four years. Russ was involved in water development from east to west of the Continental Divide. Two sons were born during that time. Thereafter the family moved to New Mexico for 26 years while Russ was involved in Missile Development at White Sands and in Alamogordo. Meanwhile, another daughter was born in Las Cruces. The next years were busy with church, school activities, sports, music, cheerleading, and Bev sewing for everyone, assisting with Sunday School, serving as Gray Lady with the Red Cross, and accepting membership into P.EO. Albuquerque, Kirtland AFB, became home for the next 8 years. While there we had the priviledge of accompanying Linda and the Marching Band from New Mexico, one of 14 from the U.S. to the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. Eight years later Russ retired from the government and took a position with Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. While living in Westerville, Ohio we were blessed with a great church where we became very active with the Young at Heart senior group, and cooking and serving. Bev particularly enjoyed resuming choir. Retirement for Russ came after 8 years, and it was time to return to my native Colorado. While back in Colorado, Bev had the opportunity to sing in the church choirs both at Mission Hills and Cherry Creek Presbyterians churches, as well as The Lutheran Chorale and the Oratorio Society in Estes Park where they had a summer home. Having already studied voice for 4 years, solo parts were offered to Bev, which she found most gratifying. She loved being the mother of her four children. She worked in the banking industry for 15 years, volunteered at Littleton Hospital for 10 years. She participated in Christian Women's Club in Ohio and Colorado, P.E.O. 61 years, and various church circles. She loved all who worshiped with her and Russ wherever God placed them. Her hobbies she enjoyed were quilting, sewing, reading, water aerobics, music, entertaining, gardening, and most of all her love for the Lord and the family He gave her, including the many friends He put in their lives. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church,3595 Grand Forks Blvd, Charlottesville, VA 22911. Danny Via and Scott Honaker will officiate. Condolences may be shared on the tribute wall.

Bev was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter AQ when she was able to be, and our president from 2014-2016. (I was her vice president, and helped her with chapter computer communication.) I have a photo of her when she became a Golden Girl in 2017, when our Chapter was one of the hostess chapters for VA State Convention, held that year in Harrisonburg at JMU. Bev's favorite P.E.O. philanthropy was the Educational Loan Fund (ELF), and she worked tirelessly on ELF over a long P.E.O. "career". Bev was always elegant, and dressed to the nines!
