Christopher Cromer Obituary
Christopher "Chris" Cromer
December 8, 1962 – August 24, 2025
Christopher "Chris" Cromer, 62, of Albemarle County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. Born on December 8, 1962, Chris was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, brother, and loyal friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty P. Cromer and Wade Hampton "Jack" Cromer Jr., who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that he carried throughout his life.
Chris is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sandy Cromer. He leaves behind four children: Christina Cromer (David) and Heather Cromer, and with Sandy, their children Joe Cromer (Melissa) and Jessie Cromer (Shane). He also shared a special fatherly bond with Laura Herring, who was like a daughter to him.
He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Mason Cromer, Katelyn Cromer, Hailey Frazier, Jaxon Cromer, Axel Cressel, Kierslei Cromer, and Hudson Cromer.
Chris is also survived by his sister, Tina Cromer, and by Chasity Clements, with whom he grew up with and loved like a sister. He is fondly remembered by lifelong friends Maryann and Merritt Sprouse, whose friendship meant the world to him.
A lifelong resident of Albemarle County, though he didn't always live in Scottsville, he came to call it home in recent years. He was the second-generation owner of JC Body Shop in Charlottesville, where he worked his entire career. Known for his skill, integrity, and commitment to quality, Chris continued the legacy his father began, growing the business with his own hard work until he eventually passed it on and sold it.
Chris had a deep love for dirt track racing and a passion for autobody work, especially restoring vintage Mustangs. He also loved going to the movies and enjoyed eating out with friends at Tip Top and McDonald's, cherishing those simple moments of laughter and camaraderie.
Whether under the hood of a classic car, at the race track, or sharing a meal with friends, Chris found joy in craftsmanship, speed, community, and friendship.
He leaves behind a legacy built on love, loyalty, and a passion for the things that made him feel most alive. Chris will be missed deeply and remembered always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Gene Raye Jones, with a date and time to be announced. Family and friends will gather to honor Chris's memory, share stories, and reflect on the lasting impact he made through his love for family, his devotion to his craft, and the friendships he built throughout his life.
