Doris Nordness Obituary

Doris Edna Nordness (McCann), 89, of Gordonsville, VA died on February 6, 2025 in Harrisonburg, VA. Born November 3, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of Walter John McCann and Edna Marie Peterson McCann. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and siblings-in-law, Blanche Vito (Joe), Harold McCann (Peggy), Dorothy Currie (Gordon), Lawrence McCann, Rudolph McCann, Gloria McCann, Stanley McCann (Katherine) and brother-in-law Bill Wieble. Doris is survived by her sister Dolly Wieble, and sister-in-law, Mary McCann, both of Troy, MO. In addition, she is survived by her daughter Dawn DeAnn Nordness Page (James) of Gordonsville, VA and her son Richard Alan Nordness, and by her grandchildren Lauren Hughes (Nicholas) of Midlothian, VA, Douglas Page (Amber) of Front Royal, VA, Leah Nordness, Joel Nordness, Joanna Nordness, Daniel Nordness and John Nordness. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, including Blaire Hughes, Andrew Hughes, Henley Page, Damian Nordness and several others, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Doris worked as a bookkeeper most of her adult life. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She lived primarily in and around St. Louis until 1979, with the exception of a few years in San Diego, CA. In 1979, She returned to her beloved San Diego with her daughter and remained in the city she loved until she retired in 1997 and joined her daughter, first in Alexandria, VA and then moving to Gordonsville, VA in 2022. In 2024, her health needs required specialized care and she moved into a nursing facility in Harrisonburg, VA. Doris was active in several different Southern Baptist churches all of her life, her final church home being Groveton Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. Per her wishes, Doris will be cremated and her ashes will be planted with a tree on the property of her final home in Gordonsville. Also, per her wishes, a private memorial with her immediate family will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
