James Gibson Obituary

James "Jimmy" Gibson, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Jimmy was born in Charlottesville on August 21st, 1946. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1964 and later married Thelma Pauline Harlow. Jimmy worked as a farmer for Mr. & Mrs. Burn at Darby Folly Farm for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, Annie "Polly" Gibson; wife, Thelma Gibson; and loved ones Linda Clements, Chad Durrer, Karleigh Brown, and Kyle Crenshaw. Jimmy is survived by his son, Shannon Gibson and wife, Nichole; stepdaughters Lois Crenshaw, Pat Shull and husband Daniel, and Joan Durrer and husband Bobby; grandchildren Cody Gibson and wife, Reed, and Logan Gibson and significant other Celia Hines; and many other loved ones. Jimmy was very excited about the upcoming arrival of his great-granddaughter, Wren, in March 2025. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Someone who held a special place in his heart was his great-grandson, Josh Brown, who spent many years working alongside Jimmy and looking up to him as his mentor. He also had a special cousin Rosa Lee & Dicky McAllister and family, who always had a delicious meal waiting for him. Jimmy's love for life was rooted in his deep devotion to his family, his unwavering support for UVA sports, and the countless hours he spent at the ball field. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and making friends wherever he went, no matter what ballpark he was in. Jimmy rarely missed a game or weekend tournament and was his son and grandsons' number one fan. Jimmy was the kind of person who showed up for those he loved whenever they needed him – no matter the time, place, or circumstance. His selflessness and loyalty to his family and friends did not go unrecognized, and his legacy will never by forgotten. Family night will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Rd, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903. A graveside service will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911

My sincere condolences to Jimmy's large family. We were classmates from 5th grade through high school. I didn't know him too well, but I remember his kindness, his friendly smile, and seeing him at lots and lots of sports events. He was a really nice person, and I'm happy to read about his love and devotion to his big family. Rest in peace, Jimmy
