Sharon Vest Obituary

Sharon Yvonne McGruder Vest, 68, gained her wings June 22, 2025 at her home, peacefully surrounded by her three lovely children. Sharon was born February 25, 1957 in Charlottesville, VA, to the late George W. McGruder, Sr. and Inez M. McGruder. She is preceded in death by her brother, Mason "Beatle" McGruder. Sharon leaves her cherished memory to her children: daughters, Torri McGruder, Cherrie Vest, and son, Corday Vest, all of Charlottesville, VA; three brothers: George Jr. (Christine) of Delaware, Gregory (Zelda) and Larry (Kay), and one sister, Paula (John) all of Charlottesville, VA; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and best friends Judy Willis and Patricia B. Jones. Sharon gave her life to GOD when she joined Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Faber, VA. Sharon attended Charlottesville City Schools and was a graduate of the first class of Charlottesville High School, the Class of 1975. She worked for the University of Virginia as an Administrative Assistant with 29 years and eight months of service, then retired in 2019. After retirement, she worked as a Cafeteria Aide at Burley Middle School until her illness. She had a sweet soul, loved her children, grands and family. She loved her "spirits" and definitely could be the life of the party! Her nickname to herself was "Chocolate." She could do this dance move, called the "Covesville Strut" that was hers uniquely, unlike no other. She loved her music, cooking, and watching TV. She was a jewel to her family and will definitely be missed, but NEVER be forgotten. The family extends a special thanks to the Hospice of the Piedmont and a special "thank you" to nurse B.R. for the care she gave to their Mom. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Hill & Wood Funeral Home Charlottesville Chapel. Condolences may be shared on the tribute wall.

Sharon, you were the best neighbor and friend and woman could have. When I became a mother to my first child, you always welcomed us in your home and would keep me there all night having the ear of times talking, dancing, and always giving the best advise. I will miss you my friend. Rest well
