Thomas Frazier Obituary

Thomas Patrick Frazier, 76, died peacefully at home surrounded by family in Nellysford, Virginia on April 16, 2025 following a long illness. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Niland Frazier; daughter Emily (Brian) Howard of Fairfax, VA; son Peter (Beth) Frazier of Charlottesville, VA; brother Michael (Suzanne) Frazier of Macungie, PA; sister Suzanne (James) Angle of Logan, OH; grandsons William and Weston Howard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was born on October 11,1948 in Logan, Ohio to his late parents, Harold and Jeannette Frazier. After graduating from Logan High School, Tom attended Ohio University, obtaining a B.A. in journalism and an M.A. in economics. It was at OU that Tom met the love of his life, Carolyn. Following their graduation, Tom and Carolyn relocated to Northern Virginia, where they raised their family and remained until retirement. Tom enjoyed being involved in and supporting his children's activities, be it starring in the role of Batman or Perseus in elementary school parent plays, serving as President of the Annandale-North Springfield Little League, or leading family hikes in the national parks. Tom spent the first decade living in Northern Virginia working as an economist for a variety of government agencies and contractors while earning a Ph.D. in economics from American University. He then served with distinction for nearly 40 years at the Institute for Defense Analyses, where he was the Deputy Director of the Cost Analysis and Research Division and Director of the SAFETY Act program. In 2000 he received the Andrew J. Goodpaster Award for excellence in research, the Institute's highest honor. Upon retirement, Tom and Carolyn moved to Nellysford, Virginia, where Tom built his dream home with a view of the mountains. He spent retirement reading on his porches while taking in the view, playing tennis with 'the guys', and going on bike trips all over the world with Carolyn. He was (only somewhat ironically) proud to be a lifetime Costco Executive Member. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, 201 North 1st Street, Charlottesville, VA. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26 at Holy Comforter Catholic Church in Charlottesville with Rev. Joseph Hagan, O.P. officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please honor Tom by making a donation to ALKPositive-Inc. https://secure.qgiv.com/event/alkpositiveinc/team/992317--tomfrazier
