Dorothy Behnken Obituary

Dorothy Behnken, 87, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Dorothy was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Viola Township, to Edward and Luena (Bierbaum) Reinecke. On June 1, 1948, she married Marlow H. Behnken at the North Church in Eyota. She and Marlow farmed for 40 years in Haverhill Township. Dorothy has lived the past 15 years in Rochester.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, knitting, quilting, reading and did all of the bookkeeping for the family farm and insurance business.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Anthony (Sharon) Behnken of Eyota, Elton Behnken of Mantorville, and Wade (Kathy) Behnken of Pine Island; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ervin (Arlene) Reinecke of Eyota; and extended family, Colin and Pat Aldis of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson, Matthew Behnken.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Joel Haak officiating. Burial will be in the Little Valley Cemetery, rural Dover. Visitation will be Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
