ALBERT SAKALAUSKI Obituary

Albert J. Sakalauski, 89, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
Born April 13, 1919, in DeKalb, he was the son of Joseph and Katherine (Matulis) Sakalauski. Albert married Joyce E. Nelson June 26, 1948, at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb.
Albert graduated in 1937 from DeKalb Township High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He was employed by United States Steel Cyclone Fence in DeKalb for 30 years, and later was the supervisor of maintenance at the DeKalb County Nursing Home until his retirement in 1986. Albert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb, American Legion Post 66, where he was a life member, and a former member of Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of DeKalb; three sons, David Sakalauski of Florissant, Mo., Tom (Nancy) Sakalauski of Glen Carbon and James Sakalauski of Jefferson, Wis.; five grandchildren, Angela (Clay) Sheffield, Heather (Marty) Willie, Michael (Renee) Sakalauski, Mark (Krista) Sakalauski and Brian (Sarah) Sakalauski; five great-grandchildren, Daniel and John Sheffield, Henry and Thomas Willie and Kennedy Sakalauski; a sister, Anne (George) Szukis of DeKalb; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Sakalauski; and a brother, Matthew Sakalauski.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St.. in DeKalb, with Fr. Bonaventure Okoro officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in DeKalb, with full military rites provided by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Albert J. Sakalauski in care of Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 605, DeKalb, IL 60115.

I used to work at DCNRC and i was lucky enough to have gotten to know al and joyce. Al was such a sweet man and i will miss him. Im sorry for the familys loss and my sympathies are with joyce as well.
