Barbara Weaver Obituary

Barbara June Weaver
Born: June 6, 1927 in Armington, IL
Died: April 23, 2024 in Sycamore, IL
Long time Sycamore resident Barbara June Weaver passed away April 23, 2024 at age 96. She was born June 6, 1927 in Armington, Illinois into the Markland family. She received her teaching degree at Illinois Wesleyan Univ., where she met fellow music educator, organist and returning WW2 veteran John Weaver. Barb was not only musically inclined, but was the shortstop on the Wesleyan ladies softball club. After graduating from Wesleyan John and Barb were married. She taught music in DeKalb County rural schools for 5 years, then started a family with John. She oversaw finances for a nonprofit child care facility located in DeKalb for many years, and became an advocate of pre-school education for children of lower income families and women’s rights. Barb was active at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sycamore serving on the vestry, altar guild, and others. She was a church choir member with a beautiful alto voice. Husband John was the organist, so their love of music was enjoyed together every week at St. Peters. This voice-keyboard duo were in demand for weddings and funerals throughout the midwest, such that they played several hundred events together over the years. She was an active sister of the P.E.O. and an Eastern Star Member. Her friendship, wisdom and candor will be missed by many. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John Weaver, who passed away June 16, 2007. She is survived by her children Curtis (wife Lorena Weaver), and Rodney; Grandchildren Nicholas (Partner Christine Liakopoulos), Ryan (Partner Filipina Amplayo) , and Joe; Great Grandchildren Jade and Mia; Nephew William Gaddis (Wife Lynn Gaddis). A Memorial Service is planned at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Sycamore, on June 8, time TBD.

My sister was here and mom and she and I stopped at Elisson´s bakery in sycamore - to get some donuts / mom loved cinnamon swirls. I ran into the bakery and there sat your mom with another lady - I said barb how are you - she couldn´t think of who I was at first and then she asked about my mom - she was in the car - and do barb went out to talk with her . That was the last time we saw barb, my mom passed in Jan 6, 2022 and everytime I got close to sycamore wondered about barb - mom considered her a good friend - sorry to hear of her passing and you have my families sincere condolences Tom Wisted

So sorry to hear of Barb's passing. Your parents were friends of my parents (Bob & Jean Jacobson) when they lived in Shabbona. Mom, Arlene Wisted, and Lou Ann Benson were always happy to see Barb at the Farm Bureau Primetimers events. Sadly, none of these great ladies are with us anymore. You have our deepest sympathies.

Your mom and dad were good friends of my parents (Jean and Harlan Douglass) years ago. They used to play bridge together. My parents have been gone since 2001 but I know they would be sad to hear of your mom's passing. I have fond memories of your parents, your dad with his musical talents and your mom with her sweet quiet presence . Please accept my sincere condolences. May the good memories you have of your mom and dad give you peace in this difficult time

I got to know Mrs Weaver through the years when she would bring the palms for us to store until Palm Sunday and when she would come in and order altar flowers. I visited with her this year when she brought the palms for us the keep in the cooler. She was a very sweet lady and i will miss chatting with her.
