Debbie and I express our sincere condolences to Toni and the entire Krull family on the passing of Charlie. I first met Charlie in January of 1978 and since then he was a great mentor and friend to me. He was such a positive inspiration to so many colleagues who worked for and with him throughout his career. I and my family will never forget all the fond friendship and shared memories we experienced with Charlie over the years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of loss.

Charlie and I sang in Dekalb Festival Chorus together for many years. I really appreciated visiting his lovely home for our annual parties. Also, I was a plant genetics professor at NIU, and one year Charlie came out to give us a seminar on Norman Borlaug and the Green Revolution. I used a couple of his slides in my lectures for years after that. I enjoyed his company, and it makes me sad to have to send my condolences on his passing.

To Charles' family and friends, please take comfort in each other during this sad time. My deepest sympathies go out to you all.

I have known Charlie, (Chief) as his wife Toni called him, for all my 30 years of life. When my grandfather David Curtis passed, Charlie and Toni watched me (6 years old then) while my family was at the hospital. Charlie and my grandfather were colleagues and close friends. Charlie, Toni and my grandparents (Dave and Dorothy) have enjoyed dinners, NIU football games, trips and many more occasions together.
Charlie was a great man filled with my interesting stories and knowledge. He had an excellent sense of humor as well. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Thank you for your kindness and memories Chief.
