Frederick W. "Rick" Shaff, 78, of Sycamore, Ill., passed peacefully Thursday, July 14, 2022.
Born Oct. 1, 1943, in Chicago, son of Ralph and Irene (Emerson) Shaff, Rick married Christine L. Johnson in March 1977.
A veteran of the US Navy, Rick was an engineer at Lucent Technology for more than 30 years, developing many vital software technologies. He loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator and was an avid chess player. He had sung in many choirs, bringing joy to others and he especially enjoyed worshiping the Lord through singing.
Rick is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Daniel, Ryan (Pam), and Saunya Shaff and Heather (Mark) Wuttke; grandchildren, Austin, Evan, Annika, Emma, Jonathan, Alex and Aiden; and several foster children, international students, and nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Rick was predeceased by his parents and three siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Network of Nations, 530 W. State St., Sycamore, IL 60178; or Bethel Assembly of God, 131 W. Elm St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Friday, July 22, 2022, at Olson's Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore. Visitation is an hour earlier.

Chris, Heather and family, please accept my sincere condolences for Rick. We shared many laughs and good times while working at Lucent in the E9-1-1 group. I shall remember him in my heart. Peace.
