John Paul Andersen, 83, of Genoa, Ill., died Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb
Born May 6, 1938, in Dike, Iowa, the son of Hans Pedar and Elisa Marie (Sorensen) Andersen, John married the love of his life, Sandra Herrmann on April 25, 1964, at St. James Church, Belvidere.
A veteran of the US Army Reserves, and after farming with his father, John was employed as an equipment engineer by Automatic Electric for several years. He was an avid golfer and Cubs fan. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed helping people find homes and farms as a real estate broker. He was a member of the Kirkland Historical Society and the Heritage Museum in Genoa.
John is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Janine (Howard) Misener of Garden Prairie and Eric John Andersen of Genoa; grandchildren, Jessica Firkins of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Amber Henninger of Green Bay, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Marian Hammer, Elaine Johnson, Evelyn Jensen and Dennis Andersen.
Memorials can be made to the family for a fund to be established.
The family extends special thanks to the Genoa Rescue Squad, Kishwaukee Hospital and their friends and neighbors in the Southwoods community for their kindness and generosity.
Visitation will be from 3-6 pm Monday, July 12, 2021, at Cooper Quiram Chapel, 202 E. Main St., Genoa. Burial will be private at St. Catherine Cemetery, Genoa.
