Nick Smith died November 24, 2024 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born January 10, 1951 in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Harold E. and Rhea (Valleau) Smith. He grew up in DeKalb and spent two years as a teenager in Bangkok, Thailand with his family. He graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, in 1976 and worked for several years in a family foundry in Saugatuck, Michigan, where he met Nichole Lamere. They were married in 1980 and moved to Minneapolis a few years later, where they started their cleaning business. Nick was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1984 and stayed very active, studying and teaching the Bible throughout his life. Nick's memorial service was held Saturday, December 14, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Minneapolis. Nick is survived by his wife Nikki, his children Erica, Maggie and Evan, and four grandchildren, Lilliana, Zavier, Vladimir, and Maverick. He also is survived by his sister Gayla (Edward) Nieminen of Sycamore, Illinois and his brother Curtis (Sally) Smith of Calistoga, California, and nieces Margot (Kevin) Sondgeroth of Lafayette and Rachel (Brenton) Wheeler of Calistoga, as well as two grandnieces and four grandnephews, his aunt Genive Underwood of Pennsylvania, and many cousins.
