Paul Cheney Obituary

Paul E. Cheney

Paul Edward Cheney, age 69, of Sycamore (formerly of Sugar Grove and Sandwich) passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long and brave fight to recover from a brain aneurysm.

Paul was born in 1945, in Chicago. He graduated from Fenger High School in 1963. From there he went to work at Halsey Stuart Investment Bank. During this time, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Paul trained as a helicopter crew chief and door gunner, and made the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was very proud to have served his country.

Paul married Rhonda in 1974. They moved to Sugar Grove in 1976, where he became the Vice President for the Bank of Sugar Grove. Paul was a banker for more than 25 years and was a fixture in the Sugar Grove community for many years.

Paul and Rhonda retired to Sandwich, IL and spent winters in Fort Myers, Florida.

Paul loved airplanes, motorcycles, boats, and fancy cars. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. He was the life of the party and enjoyed telling stories and jokes. Paul was also very artistic; his many creations included pen and ink drawings, watercolors, pastel chalk drawings, and wood working and carving.

Paul is survived by Rhonda, his wife of 41 years; his daughter, Anne (Jered) Hardy of Genoa; his son, Mike (Cindy) Cheney of Oswego; his grandchildren, John Hardy, Ava Hardy, Audrey Cheney and Elliot Cheney; two sisters, Carol (Don) Boomstra of Dyer, IN. and Nancy (John) Schaddelee of Tinley Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel Cheney.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178.

To the best friend a guy could ever have....
Who would have thought (about) 35 years ago a couple young bankers having a drink together after some banking seminar, would become best of friends, for all these years. It was a friendship that meant the world to me, and i'm going to miss you.
If only in those years you could have taught me how to use 1 or 2 more tools in my garage, or maybe how to make a drink using a shot glass, ice tongs, and those little swords.

Rest in peace my friend
Love ya Chuckeee
