Paul Mullis, 58, of Malta, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at home.
He was born September 25, 1959 in DeKalb, Illinois the son of Jack and Elizabeth (Willrett) Mullis.
Paul touched many people with his kind hearted spirit and uncanny ability to remember birthdays. He enjoyed going to family get-together's, graduations, weddings, and other events and dressed as Santa for many years bringing joy to his family. His hobbies of latch hooking and love of jigsaw puzzles spans over 43 years. The color orange always made Paul smile. After completing his public education at Hinckley-Big Rock, he worked at Opportunity House where the staff became his second family since 1980. He was faithful to his God and his church, Pierce United Methodist, re-enacting numerous sermons once he got home under the willow tree or in his living room to whomever would listen. He has been a member of Crossview Church since his families move to Malta. He was that gentle, loving giant that will be missed by all.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Mullis of Malta; brother, Tom (Sally) Mullis of DeKalb; sisters, Barbara Coleman of Normal, Jayne (Doug) Harris of Princeton, Kentucky, Sharon (David) Sisk of Conway, South Carolina; several aunts and uncles; 13 nieces and nephews; 9 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Mullis; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Bernice Mullis; maternal grandparents, Paul and Ethel Willrett.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Crossview EFCA Church, 150 Bethany Rd. in DeKalb with the Rev. Jeffrey Knitt officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Paul R. Mullis Memorial Fund, addressed to the Mullis Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.

To Paul's Mom and his family! Paul will greatly missed at Opportunity house day program. He was very quick putting puzzles together. And hear him talk about his family and mom whom he loved so much. Cherish and treasure those special memories of Paul very close to your hearts. Someday we'll meet our loved ones again with open arms and everlasting love. May you rest in peace, Paul.
