PHILIP FLOIT Obituary

SYCAMORE – Philip Floit, lifelong resident of Sycamore, Ill., and an octogenarian, passed away on June 13, 2013.
Born Feb. 25, 1930, he married Dolores Gertrude Ells on Feb. 27, 1952, and they had a passel of children, all of whom survive him: Cathy (Floit) and Steve Schneider of Seattle, Wash., Gary and Carol Floit of Kingston, Karen (Floit) and Leo Odom of DeKalb, Mary (Floit) and Kirk Carrico of Casper, Wyo., Jay and Katherine Floit of Sycamore, Amy Floit of Seattle and Sara (Floit) Mathews of Goodlettsville, Tenn. In addition, Philip had six grandchildren: Rachael (Floit) and Jeremy Bacon of Jonesboro, Ark., Katie (Floit) and Theodore J. Aretos of Carpentersville, Melanie (Floit) and Daryl Edwards of Sycamore, Marissa Odom and Tommy Young of Dowagiac, Mich., Emma Floit of Sycamore and Ryan Floit of Sycamore. He also had five great-grandchildren: Naomi Bacon, Max Aretos, Sebastian Galindo, Santiago Galindo and Myla Young. Philip also is survived by one brother, Clarence Floit of Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb; sister-in-law, Helen Floit of Aurora; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Philip, better known as "Flip" to his buddies, had lots of friends. His heart's desire was to be a farmer, and he got in a few good "licks" over the years, but that was not his main job. Flip primarily worked for his brother, Roy, as a loader at "Floit's Sand and Gravel" (now known as Vulcan Material's) until his retirement. After that, you might have seen him in one of the clubs around town playing "Lightening" or chatting to his many friends at Parkway Restaurant. Flip also took up golf late in life and became quite good at it.
After a bad fall, Flip ended up at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center where he resided down the hallway nicknamed "Hummingbird Lane." Flip made friends of staff and residents alike, but all he wanted to do was "go home." His failing health prevented him from doing so.
Flip was a gregarious man known for his sassy and mischievous sense of humor that he passed down to all of his kids. They will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Freda Floit; brother, Roy Floit; brother, Harold Floit; sister, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Stark; and sister, Vera Schlagle. Last of all, gone but never forgotten, his dear wife of 39 years, Dolores Gertrude Ells, who passed away on Dec. 18, 1991. Philip now joins Dolores, "Together forever." The man on Hummingbird Lane has truly gone home.
The family would like to thank the DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center for their many kindnesses and care for "Flip" during his residency. They also would like to thank Midwest Orthopedics, Kishwaukee Community Hospital, TransVAC, DaVita, Ridge Ambulance Service and Atec Ambulance Service. Without these much needed facilities and services and people, "Flip's" specialized care would not have been possible.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178, with the Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Flip has been in our lives at Ridge Ambulance since he moved into DeKalb County Nursing home. We transported him 3 times a week to DaVita. The trips to his doctors appointments where filled with stories of his youth and family. We will all miss you Flip. As I came and visited you on Wednesday I told you I have been blessed to have you in my life these years.

Emma and family:

Way back in 1994, I had the pleasure of meeting Phil and Clancy in the Monday night men's bowling league at Mardi Gras Lanes. I always looked forward to seeing them, and especially enjoyed Flip's jokes and good-natured personality. Although I have not seen him in several years, I often think of him, and value his freindship.

I am sorry for your loss.
