ROBERT SWANSTROM Obituary

Robert L. Swanstrom, 81, of Nisswa, Minn., died at his home Wednesday, June 17, 2009.

Robert was born Sept. 28, 1927, in DeKalb, Ill. He has been a resident of the Brainerd Lakes Area for over 50 years. Robert was drafted and served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years. Under special orders, Robert was stationed in Guam where he worked for the R.I.P.O. printing code books.

He was a self-employed housing contractor for most of his life and was responsible for the construction of more than 126 homes. He also owned and operated Bambi's Resort on Lake Hubert which is the current site of Alluring Pines Resort. An active member of the community, Robert volunteered for the Nisswa Fire Department for 23 years where he was a past Assistant Fire Chief as well as a member of the Zoning and Planning Commission in Nisswa for a number of years. He met his wife, Shizuko, in 1990 and the two enjoyed many happy years together.

Robert was a wildlife enthusiast who liked to hunt and fish across the United States and Canada. He enjoyed woodcarving, photography, and he also built many RC model airplanes – some from scratch. He had a great sense of humor and was always able to share a joke or witty remark.

Robert will be missed by his wife, Shizuko Austin–Swanstrom; his son, James; Shizuko's son, William and his wife, Amy; and three granddaughters.

Services for Robert will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to services.
